Torres Altos Ibericos Crianza 2012 (Rioja)
$16.95 (Vintages #381046)
Ruby-purple in colour with a cedary-sandalwood nose of cherries with a spicy note; medium-bodied, dry, red berry fruit flavours with balancing acidity, Good length. Good mouth feel. **** (88)
Food match: breaded veal; spaghetti bolognese

The Lane Vineyard Block 1A Chardonnay 2013 (Australia)
$19.95 (Vintages #429233)
This Chardonnay was grown in the Adelaide Hills but, in terms of style, it owes as much to Burgundy as it does to Balhanna in South Australia where the grapes came from. It's straw-coloured, and the minerally bouquet has a note of forest floor – a characteristic of fine white Burgundy. Full-bodied and dry with a soft mouth-feel, the flavour is of peaches with just a suggestion of oak. ***** (90)
Food match: grilled salmon; roast chicken
