680 NEWS wine reviews – December 18–20, 2015

Henry of Pelham Chardonnay 2013
Ontario Chardonnay from Niagara has evolved a style that is distinctly its own, owing nothing to Burgundy or California. A case in point is Henry of Pelham Chardonnay 2013 currently at Vintages outlets. Straw coloured with a concentrated bouquet of toasted nuts, melon and lemon, the wine is medium to full-bodied, dry with spicy, pineapple and citrus flavours ending on a toasty oak note. It costs $19.95 at Vintages. Serve it with the Christmas turkey. That's Henry of Pelham Chardonnay 2013 from Ontario. For Post City Magazines, I'm Tony Aspler, 680 NEWS. ($19.95, Vintages #268342)

Dandelion Vineyards Lioness of McLaren Vale Shiraz 2013
Dandelion Vineyards Lioness of McLaren Vale Shiraz 2013 is another of those Aussie Shirazes that take no prisoners. Which means it's not for the faint of palate. Dense purple in colour, it shows a spicy, minty, ripe plum bouquet with cedary notes. Full-bodied and mouth-filling, it's a juicy, fruity wine that sells for a reasonable $19.95. A carnivore's wine if ever I tasted one. Serve it with rich winter stews. That's Dandelion Vineyards Lioness of McLaren Vale Shiraz 2013 from Australia at Vintages outlets. For Post City Magazines I'm Tony Aspler, 680 NEWS. ($19.95, Vintages #357475)
