Matt Kramer Kicks Off The Big Taste at River Café 

America's best-known wine critic, Matt Kramer, is a long-time fan of River Café in Calgary. For one night only, he returns to the restaurant to host a very special evening of food and wine, Thursday March 3rd at 6:30 PM. The event kicks off The Big Taste, Calgary's premier dining festival. Kramer will be presiding over a tasting of BC VQA wines and some international gems from River Cafe's own collection.

The evening will include Kramer's interactive and fun wine tasting, as well as a multi-course dinner of seasonal Canadian specialties from the kitchen of Chef Matthias Fong. Tickets are available through The Big Taste at calgarydowntown.com/the-big-taste

"We have a very special cellar," says River Café proprietor Sal Howell, "there are some real treasures down there, and we're pulling them out for this event. Guests will definitely get more than their ticket price."

Matt Kramer has written for The Wine Spectator since 1985. He's written four books about wine. His visit to River Café kicks off The Big Taste, Calgary's premier dining festival, and is presented by the BC Wine Institute. The event is part of River Cafe's 25th Anniversary Celebration.

Located on Prince's Island Park, River Café features the best local produce from small farms practicing sustainable farming. River Café was recently named one of Canada's 100 Best Restaurants. The restaurant has received numerous accolades over the years for its commitment to regional cuisine in publications like Bon Appetit, Food Service & Hospitality, Gourmet and Enroute. River Café has won Tourism Calgary's "Restaurant of the Year" and is a perennial winner in the Avenue Magazine Top 10 Restaurant Awards.
