680 NEWS wine reviews – March 4–6, 2016

Redstone Brickyard Riesling 2014
Fans of Ontario wine will remember the old Thomas & Vaughan winery in Beamsville. In 2009 it was bought by Moray Tawse and renamed Redstone and it's producing some delicious wines at consumer-friendly prices. Just released at the LCBO is Redstone Brickyard Riesling 2014. Almost water white in colour, the wine offers a nose of petrol, grapefruit and honey. Light-bodied and off-dry, it has a sweet grapefruit flavour with lively acidity. It costs $15.95 a bottle. Works well with pork and apple sauce or Thai food. Redstone Brickyard Riesling 2014. For Post City Magazines I'm Tony Aspler, 680 NEWS. ($15.95, LCBO #346866)

Loma Larga Sauvignon Blanc 2014
Chilean Sauvignon Blanc that tastes like Sancerre from the Loire Valley – now, that's something to get excited about, especially since the price is Chilean rather than French. Loma Larga Sauvignon Blanc 2014 from the Aconcagua Valley has a nose of green plums and nettles; it's dry, fresh and lively on the palate with flavours of gooseberry and grapefruit and a long lingering finish. It costs $16.95 at Vintages outlets and works well with goat's cheese or Caesar salad. That's Loma Larga Sauvignon Blanc 2014 from Chile. For Post City Magazines I'm Tony Aspler, 680 NEWS. ($16.95, VINTAGES #283630)
