680 NEWS wine reviews – March 25–27, 2016

Henry of Pelham Family Tree White 2012
Ontario wineries are coming up with proprietary white blends thick and fast. One of the best is Henry of Pelham Family Tree White 2012. It's a blend of Chardonnay, Viognier, Gewurztraminer and Sauvignon Blanc. Medium straw in colour it offers a spicy, honeysuckle and peach nose; it's dry, aromatic, medium-bodied, and spicy, with lychee and grapefruit flavours and a firm finish. It costs $17.95 at Vintages outlets. Try it with Thai dishes or pork with apple sauce. That's Henry of Pelham Family Tree White 2012 from Ontario. For Post City Magazines, I'm Tony Aspler, 680 NEWS. ($17.95, Vintages #251116)

Masseria Surani Heracles Primitivo 2013
After DNA analysis, the Zinfandel grape of California was found to be the same as the Primitivo grape grown in southern Italy and Sicily. Currently at Vintages outlets is Masseria Surani Heracles Primitivo 2013 from Puglia. This is a big wine. Dense purple in colour with an intense nose of black plums and vanilla oak. Full-bodied and richly extracted, it offers fruity, ripe plum and cocoa flavours. A carnivore's wine if ever there was one. It costs $17.95 at Vintages. That's Masseria Surani Heracles Primitivo 2013 from Italy at Vintages. For Post City Magazines, I'm Tony Aspler, 680 NEWS. ($17.95, Vintages #434274)
