Almost water white in colour with an intense nose of cut grass, grapefruit and kiwi; medium-bodied, mouth-freshening acidity carries flavours of rhubarb and gooseberry with a touch of sweetness in mid-palate cleansed by the acidic finish. ***** (90)

Piping Shrike Shiraz 2013 (Barossa Valley)

Dense purple-black in colour; smoky, medicinal nose of blackberries with an earthy note; full-bodied, dry, firmly structured with lively acidity. ****½ (88.5)

Graffigna Centenario Malbec Reserve 2014 (Argentina)

Open for World Malbec Day on April 17th. Dense purple colour showing a spicy, cedary, plum bouquet with dark chocolate and vanilla oak notes. Medium-bodied, dry, blackberry and plum flavours carried on lively acidity and contained in a firm tannic framework. A bargain at the price. (88)
