680 NEWS wine reviews – April 15–17, 2016

Graffigna Centenario Malbec Reserve 2014
I don't know if every wine grape gets its day, but April 17th is World Malbec Day. Celebrate it with Graffigna Centenario Malbec Reserve 2014 from Argentina. Dense purple in colour, this wine offers a spicy, cedary, plum bouquet with dark chocolate and vanilla oak notes. Medium-bodied and dry, its blackberry and plum flavours are carried on lively acidity and contained by a firm tannic framework. It costs $13.95 at the LCBO. Serve it with steak or roast meats. That's Graffigna Centenario Malbec Reserve 2014 from Argentina. For Post City Magazines, I'm Tony Aspler, 680 NEWS. ($13.95, LCBO #230474)

Stoneleigh Latitude Sauvignon Blanc 2015
I'm a great fan of New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc, and one of the best is currently at Vintages outlets: Stoneleigh Latitude Sauvignon Blanc 2015 is almost water white in colour with an intense nose of cut grass, grapefruit and kiwi; it's medium-bodied with mouth-freshening acidity that carries flavours of rhubarb and gooseberries. The touch of sweetness in mid-palate is cleansed by its acidic finish. It costs $21.95 at Vintages outlets. Match it with grilled fish or smoked salmon. That's Stoneleigh Latitude Sauvignon Blanc 2015 from New Zealand. For Post City Magazines, I'm Tony Aspler, 680 NEWS. ($21.95, Vintages #324228)
