680 NEWS wine reviews – June 3–5, 2016

Santa Irene Bonarda Organic 2015
Bonarda is a little-known grape grown in Argentina. In California they call it Charbono. You'll find a good example at Vintages, released on June 4: Santa Irene Bonarda 2015 is an organic wine that's dense purple-ruby in colour with a complex nose of spicy plum with cedar, pencil lead and leather notes; it's medium-bodied, dry, with savoury plum and cherry flavours and a lively spine of acidity, finishing firmly. It costs $16.95 and is a worthy wine for barbecued meats. That's Santa Irene Bonarda 2015 from Argentina. For Post City Magazines I'm Tony Aspler, 680 NEWS. ($16.95, Vintages #450148)

Pieropan Soave Classico 2014
One of the best producers of Soave in Italy's Veneto region is Pieropan. Released at Vintages on June 4 is Pieropan Soave Classico 2014. The wine is straw-coloured with a lime tint. It offers a lifted nose of spicy yellow apple and peach with a minerally-floral note. Medium-bodied and dry, it's lively on the palate with a lovely mouth-feel, showing citrus and white peach flavours. An ideal aperitif or served with grilled fish. It costs $17.95 a bottle. That's Pieropan Soave Classico 2014 from Italy at Vintages outlets. For Post City Magazines I'm Tony Aspler, 680 NEWS. (Vintages #946848)
