680 NEWS wine reviews – June 17–19, 2016

Puklus Prineszet Tokaji Dry Furmint 2014
When we think of Tokaji we usually recall a sweet dessert wine; but the producers in Hungary also make a dry version from Furmint, one of its constituent grape varieties. Puklus Prineszet Tokaji Dry Furmint 2014, currently at Vintages outlets, is pale straw in colour, offering a spicy, apricot nose with a floral grace note; it's medium-bodied, fresh and lively on the palate with grapefruit and apricot flavours. It costs $16.95 a bottle and works well with poached or grilled fish. That's Puklus Prineszet Tokaji Dry Furmint 2014 from Hungary. For Post City Magazines I'm Tony Aspler, 680 NEWS. ($16.95, Vintages #445718)

Lustau Puerto Fino Solera Reserva Xeres
Dry sherry is the perfect aperitif and especially when it's made by my favourite producer, Emilio Lustau. Currently at Vintages outlets and sold in convenient half bottles is Lustau Puerto Fino Solera Reserva Xeres. Very pale in colour, it has a bouquet of camomile and cashew nuts. It's dry and fresh and elegant on the palate with a flavour of dried apricots and nuts. It costs $11.95 a half bottle. Chill it lightly and serve it with tapas or gazpacho. That's Lustau Puerto Fino Solera Reserva Xeres from Spain. For Post City Magazines I'm Tony Aspler, 680 NEWS. ($16.95, Vintages #445718)
