680 NEWS wine reviews – June 24–26, 2016

Cousiño-Macul Don Matias Reserva Syrah 2014
One of the best buys from the June 24th Vintages release is a Syrah from Chile – Cousiño-Macul Don Matias Reserva 2014. For $14.95 you get a dense purple wine with a smoky, blackberry nose augment by vanilla oak. Full-bodied and dry, it offers richly extracted flavours of blackcurrants and blackberries shaped by sweet tannins. It's an impressive wine for the price. Serve it with spicy ribs or barbecued steak or burgers. That's Cousiño-Macul Don Matias Reserva Syrah 2014 from Chile at Vintages outlets. For Post City Magazines, I'm Tony Aspler, 680 NEWS. ($14.95, Vintages #443515 (89))

Domaine des Terrisses Grande Tradition Gaillac 2012
The Gaillac region in southwest France produces some nifty red wines from grapes you may not have ever heard of. Released June 24th at Vintages is Domaine des Terrisses Grande Tradition Gaillac 2012 – made from Duras, Broucal and a little Syrah. It's deep purple-ruby in colour with an earthy black fruit nose in which the small amount of Syrah s sings through. Medium-bodied and dry, the smoky, savoury flavours make it the perfect red wine for barbecued meats. It costs $17.95 a bottle. That's Domaine des Terrisses Grande Tradition Gaillac 2012. For Post City Magazines, I'm Tony Aspler, 680 NEWS. ($17.95, Vintages #451922 (89))
