680 NEWS wine reviews – July 8–10, 2016

Domedchant Werner Hochheimer Riesling Kabinett 2012
For my palate one of the best summer white wines is a German Riesling of Kabinett quality because it's low in alcohol and its vibrant acidity makes it very refreshing on a hot day. Currently at Vintages outlets is Domedchant Werner Hochheimer Riesling Kabinett 2012. Straw-coloured with a hint of lime, it has a spicy-minerally nose of honey and citrus fruits with a light petrol note; it's off-dry with a honeyed grapefruit flavour and is beautifully balanced. It costs $21.95 a bottle. Serve it chilled as an aperitif or with baked ham. That's Domedchant Werner Hochheimer Riesling Kabinett 2012 from Germany's Rheingau region. For Post City Magazines, I'm Tony Aspler, 680 NEWS. ($21.95, Vintages #722413 (90))

Mas de Bressades Les Vignes de Mon Père 2012
France's Midi region is a crescent-shaped zone that stretches along the Mediterranean coast from the Spanish border to the mouth of the Rhone River. An ideal climate for growing Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah. Mas de Bressades Les Vignes de Mon Père makes such a blend and their 2012 is currently at Vintages. Dense purple in colour, savoury flavours of blackcurrant and blackberry with licorice and dark chocolate flavours fill the mouth to a finish of dusty tannins. The price, $21.95 at Vintages outlets. Another great wine for barbecued meats. That's Mas de Bressades Les Vignes de Mon Père 2012 from France at Vintages. For Post City Magazines, I'm Tony Aspler, 680 NEWS. ($21.95, Vintages #712174)
