680 NEWS wine reviews – September 23–25, 2016

Anselmann Edesheimer Rosengarten Siegerrebe Spätlese 2012
If you're a fan of off-dry, low-alcohol German wines you're going to love Anselmann Edesheimer Rosengarten Siegerrebe Spätlese 2012 from the Pfalz. Deep yellow in colour, it has a spicy, floral nose of lychee and tangerine. With only 8.5% alcohol it's still medium bodied with a honeyed lychee flavour that's soft on the palate and easy drinking. It costs $16.95 at Vintages outlets and works well with pork or lightly curried dishes. That's Anselmann Edesheimer Rosengarten Siegerrebe Spätlese 2012 from Germany. For Post City Magazines, I'm Tony Aspler, 680 NEWS. ($16.95, Vintages #910554)

Château des Charmes St. David's Bench Vineyard Gamay Noir Droit 2012
Niagara's Château des Charmes won two gold medals for its Gamay at the Ontario Wine Awards this year and one of them was recently listed at Vintages: St. David's Bench Vineyard Gamay Noir Droit 2012. Deep ruby in colour, the wine has a nose of plum and white pepper. It's medium-bodied, dry and elegant with lively cherry and plum flavours carried on fresh acidity. It costs $17.95 at Vintages outlets, and you can either chill it and serve it with salmon or have it at room temperature for white meats. That's Château des Charmes St. David's Bench Vineyard Gamay Noir Droit 2012 from Ontario. For Post City Magazines, I'm Tony Aspler, 680 NEWS. ($17.95, Vintages #346742)
