680 NEWS wine reviews – November 5–7, 2016

Domaine des Terrisses 2012
We don't see many wines from the Gaillac region of South West France coming through Vintages, but currently there's a delicious red blend available. Domaine des Terrisses 2012 is made from the local varieties Duras and Braucol with Syrah. It cost $17.95. The wine is deep ruby in colour with a savoury-herbal, smoky nose of black fruits; medium to full-bodied, it's dry with mouth-filling blackberry and blackcurrant flavours, finishing with ripe, grainy tannins on a note of bitter chocolate. Serve it with lamb dishes. That's Domaine des Terrisses 2012 from France at Vintages outlets. For Post City Magazines, I'm Tony Aspler, 680 NEWS. ($17.95, Vintages #451922) (89)

Columbia Winery Chardonnay 2013
The Columbia Winery in Washington State was founded in 1962 by 10 friends. Six of them were University of Washington professors, who realized the potential of growing wine in Washington State. The LCBO is carrying the Columbia Winery Chardonnay 2013. For $17.95 you get a wine that medium straw in colour with a nose of apples and spicy oak; it's medium-bodied, sweetish pineapple and melon flavours with toasty oak backing and enough acidity to give the wine balance. Just the job for grilled fish or pork dishes. That's Columbia Winery Chardonnay 2013 from Washington State at LCBO stores. For Post City Magazines, I'm Tony Aspler, 680 NEWS. ($17.95, LCBO #462804) (88.5)
