680 NEWS wine reviews – December 2–4, 2016

Peter & Peter Zeller Feinherb Riesling 2015
Nobody is more precise in designating the residual sugar in their wine than the Germans. You have Kabinett, Spaetlese, Auslese, Beerenauslese and the sweetest of all, Trockenbeerenauslese. There is also a term called Feinherb, which simply means off-dry. Currently at Vintages is Peter & Peter Zeller Feinherb Riesling 2015 from the Mosel. Light straw in colour with a spicy, minerally, floral nose of sweet limes, it's light-bodied, with a honeyed grapefruit flavour. Good value at $14.95. Match it with pork roast or mushroom tart. That's Peter & Peter Zeller Feinherb Riesling 2015 from Germany at Vintages outlets. For Post City Magazines, I'm Tony Aspler, 680 NEWS. ($14.95, Vintages #466078) (88.5)

Santa Julia Magna 2014
Today I'm recommending an inexpensive blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Malbec and Syrah from Argentina. It's Santa Julia Magna 2014 from Mendoza at Vintages outlets. Dense purple in colour, the wine has a cedary, cherry nose; it's medium-bodied and dry with richly extracted cherry and plum flavours and balancing acidity. It sells for $15.95 a bottle and will partner any red meat dish you prepare. That's Santa Julia Magna 2014 from Argentina at Vintages outlets. For Post City magazines, I'm Tony Aspler, 680 NEWS. ($15.95, Vintages #93799) (89)
