Foss Marai Prosecco Extra Dry
If champagne is too much of a stretch for your Christmas budget, try this inexpensive sparkler from Veneto – Foss Marai Prosecco Extra Dry. This bubbly has a creamy, minerally, apple and pear nose; it's medium-bodied, on the dry side, but not too dry, with good persistence on the palate. A very useful wine for minor celebrations or to make dinner an occasion. It costs $19.95 at Vintages. Try it while the turkey is being carved or save it for New Year's Eve. That's Foss Marai Prosecco Extra Dry at Vintages outlets. For Post City Magazines, I'm Tony Aspler, 680 NEWS. ($19.95, Vintages #729392) (89)

Villa Maria Cellar Selection Sauvignon Blanc 2015
Villa Maria's winery in Marlborough, New Zealand, has a consistent record of producing first-rate Sauvignon Blanc at an affordable price. Currently at Vintages is their Cellar Selection Sauvignon Blanc 2015. It's very pale in colour but don't let that fool you; it has amazing intensity of bouquet and flavour. The nose is all elderberry, cut grass and passionfruit – flavours that replicate on the palate. It's medium-bodied, dry, elegant and precise, beautifully balanced with great length. It costs $19.95 at Vintages outlets. Serve it with fish or seafood dishes. Or with goat's cheese. That's Villa Maria Cellar Selection Sauvignon Blanc 2015 from New Zealand at Vintages. For Post City Magazines, I'm Tony Aspler, 680 NEWS. ($19.95, Vintages #974527) (90)
