680 NEWS wine reviews – January 6–8, 2017

Zonte's Footsteps Baron von Nemesis Shiraz 2015
During this cold spell here's a wine to warm the cockles of your heart – whatever they are. Zonte's Footsteps Baron von Nemesis Shiraz 2015 from Australia's Barossa Valley. Dense purple-black in colour, the wine has a spicy, black fruit nose with smoky, herbal notes; it's full-bodied, dry and fruity with blackberry, dark chocolate and toasted herb flavours, a lively spine of acidity and a firm structure. It costs $19.95 at Vintages outlets. Serve it with pepper steak or aged cheddar. That's Zonte's Footsteps Baron von Nemesis Shiraz 2015 from Australia. For Post City Magazines, I'm Tony Aspler, 680 NEWS. ($19.95, Vintages #212936) (88.5)

Puklus Pincészet 3 Puttonyos Tokaji Aszú 2012
Today's recommendation is a mouthful in both senses: Puklus Pincészet 3 Puttonyos Tokaji Aszú 2012 from Hungary – one of the world's great dessert wines. Old gold in colour with a bouquet of honey, wood spice, ripe melon and orange peel, it's medium to full-bodied with sweet, apricot and honeycomb flavours and balancing acidity. It costs $20.95 for a 500 mL bottle at Vintages. It marries well with foie gras, blue cheeses or crème brûlée. That's Puklus Pincészet 3 Puttonyos Tokaji Aszú 2012 from Hungary. For Post City Magazines, I'm Tony Aspler, 680 NEWS. ($20.95, Vintages #980805) (90)
