680 NEWS wine reviews – January 13–15, 2017

Peller Private Reserve Vidal Icewine 2014
I'm looking forward to retasting Peller Estates Private Reserve Vidal Icewine 2014 at the Xerox "Sugar and Spice and Everything Ice" Icewine Gala tonight in Niagara. The wine is old gold in colour with a honeyed, spicy, apple sauce nose. The palate is medium bodied, with honeyed, apricot and caramel flavours and balancing acidity. The good news is that it's on sale until January 29th for five dollars off at $21.95 for the 200 mL bottle. Chill it well and try it on its own or with blue cheese. That's Peller Estates Private Reserve Vidal Icewine 2014 from Niagara. For Post City Magazines, I'm Tony Aspler, 680 NEWS ($21.95, Vintages #18564). (92)

Benjamin Bridge Nova 7 Sparkling 2014
If you want to relive summer on these cold winter days, pick up a bottle of Benjamin Bridge Nova 7. This lightly sparkling wine from Nova Scotia is made in Moscato d'Asti style. Very pale pink in colour with a spicy, orange and honeysuckle nose, it's light-bodied, off-dry with orange, peach and redcurrant flavours backed by lively acidity. It costs $24.95 at Vintages outlets. It makes the perfect low-alcohol aperitif or try it with Angel cake or shortbread cookies. That's Benjamin Bridge Nova 7 from Nova Scotia's Gaspereau Valley. For Post City Magazines, I'm Tony Aspler, 680 NEWS. ($24.95, Vintages #256289) (90)
