Quadrus Red 2010
Quadrus Red 2010 is a wine made in the upper Douro Valley by Casa Agricola Carm. It's a blend of the port grapes, Touriga Nacional, Tinta Roriz and Souzão. Dense purple-black in colour, it has a cedary, plum and blackcurrant nose with oak spice; it's medium to full-bodied, dry and savoury with black fruit flavours and balancing acidity. It costs $19.95 at Vintages outlets. Serve it with red meat dishes or mature cheddar. That's Quadrus Red 2010 from Portugal. For Post City Magazines, I'm Tony Aspler, 680 NEWS. Bosca Vermouth di Torino Rosso
Here's a tip for lovers of Manhattan – the cocktail, that is. One of the best bargains at the LCBO is the delicious Bosca Vermouth di Torino Rosso, the basis of a Manhattan. A litre of this red Vermouth sells for $13.45. Garnet in colour, it offers a complex bitter-sweet flavour of cherry, licorice, clove and grapefruit peel ending with a herbal note. Mixed with Bourbon and Angostura bitters and you have a Manhattan, or try it on the rocks by itself as a digestif. That's Bosca Vermouth di Torino Rosso from Italy.
