680 NEWS wine reviews – January 27–29, 2017

Flat Rock Twisted White 2015
Today's recommendation is a tasty white wine from the Niagara Peninsula: Flat Rock Twisted White 2015. It's a blend of Riesling, Gewurztraminer and Chardonnay. Pale straw in colour, it has an aromatic nose of lychee and peach with a citrus note. Just off-dry with grapefruit and lychee flavours, it's nicely balanced with good length. It costs $17.95 at Vintages outlets. Serve it with Asian dishes or as an aperitif wine. That's Flat Rock Twisted White 2015 from Ontario. For Post City Magazines, I'm Tony Aspler, 680 NEWS.
($17.95, Vintages # 1578) (88.5)

Clos Malverne Reserve Pinotage 2013
Pinotage, the signature grape of South Africa, doesn't get the respect it deserves. A crossing of Pinot Noir and the southern Rhone variety Cinsault, it produces, in the South African soil, a unique flavour of black plums, tar and iodine with a cedary note. That's what you'll find in Clos Malverne Pinotage 2013, currently at Vintages and selling for $17.95 a bottle. It's a style of red wine that rocks hearty red meat dishes. That's Clos Malverne Reserve Pinotage 2013 from South Africa at Vintages outlets. For Post City Magazines, I'm Tony Aspler, 680 NEWS. ($17.95, Vintages #468025) (89)
