680 NEWS wine reviews – February 10–12, 2017

Roche de Bellène Cuvée Réserve Pinot Noir Bourgogne 2014
Red Burgundy gets pricey but here's one that punches above its weight in terms of value for your dollar: Roche de Bellène Cuvée Réserve Pinot Noir Bourgogne 2014. Ruby in colour with a lifted, spicy black raspberry nose with well-integrated oak, it's medium-bodied, dry, fresh and lively on the palate with a flavour of raspberries. A well-balanced wine for $21.95 at Vintages outlets. Match it with duck breast or pork loin. That's Roche de Bellène Cuvée Réserve Pinot Noir Bourgogne 2014 from Burgundy – a great Valentine's dinner wine. For Post City Magazines, I'm Tony Aspler, 680 NEWS. ($21.95, Vintages #299859) (89)

Cave Spring Riesling 2014
Winemaker Angelo Pavan at Niagara's Cave Spring winery is a Riesling specialist. He makes a range of Rieslings in different styles and his introductory wine is a great bargain at the price. Cave Spring Riesling 2014, at LCBO stores, is pale straw in colour with a minerally, grapefruit and apple nose already developing petrol notes. It's light to medium-bodied, just off-dry, with a grapefruit flavour and a touch of honey. A beautifully textured wine. It costs $15.95. Serve it with grilled trout or Asian dishes. That's Cave Spring Riesling 2014 from Ontario. For Post City Magazines, I'm Tony Aspler, 680 NEWS. ($15.95, LCBO #234583) (89)
