680 NEWS wine reviews – March 10–12, 2017

Cave Spring Estate Bottled Chardonnay Musqué 2014
Cave Spring Estate Bottled Chardonnay Musqué is one of the most consistent wines year after year from the Niagara Peninsula. Bright straw in colour, it has Chardonnay's characteristic nose of apple and pear, but the Musqué clone gives the wine a floral lift of apple blossom on the nose. Medium-bodied and dry, this unoaked wine is fresh and lively on the palate with a crisp yellow apple finish. The price: $16.95 at Vintages. Match it with runny Brie or grilled trout. That's Cave Spring Estate Bottled Chardonnay Musqué 2014 from Ontario. For Post City Magazines, I'm Tony Aspler, 680 NEWS. ($16.95, Vintages #246579) (89)

Stadt Krems Grüner Veltliner 2015
Regular listeners to this spot will know that I'm a great fan of Austrian Grüner Veltliner. Vintages has recently released Stadt Krems Grüner Veltliner 2015. Pale straw in colour, the wine has a minerally nose of white peach and green pepper with a lemony note; it's medium-bodied, dry, well-balanced with apple and green pear flavours and lively and lingering acidic finish. It costs $16.95 at Vintages outlets. Match it with asparagus or scallops. That's Stadt Krems Grüner Veltliner 2015 from Austria. For Post City Magazines, I'm Tony Aspler, 680 NEWS. ($16.95, Vintages #295626)
