680 NEWS wine reviews – March 24–26, 2017

Montes Alpha Chardonnay 2014
Earlier this month I recommended Montes Alpha Pinot Noir from Chile. Well, the sister wine, Montes Alpha Chardonnay 2014, is now in Vintages outlets. Straw coloured with a spicy, toasty, smoky nose of pineapple, it's medium to full-bodied, spicy and rich on the palate. It costs $19.95 a bottle. An ideal match for grilled salmon or roast veal. That's Montes Alpha Chardonnay 2014 from Chile. For Post City Magazines, I'm Tony Aspler, 680 NEWS. ($19.95, Vintages #390203) (90)

Bodega El Esteco Don David Reserve Malbec 2013
Argentinian Malbec continues to be the flavour of the month at the LCBO. Newly listed at Vintages is Bodega El Esteco Don David Reserve Malbec 2013 from the Calchaqui Valley. Deep ruby in colour, the wine has a cedary, blackberry, herbal nose with notes of dark chocolate and clove. It's full-bodied and dry with a savoury, vanilla oak and blackberry flavours graced with a floral top note. It costs $15.95 at Vintages outlets. Serve it with pepper steak or blue cheese. That's Bodega El Esteco Don David Reserve Malbec 2013. For Post City Magazines, I'm Tony Aspler, 680 NEWS. ($15.95, LCBO #483263). (89)
