680 NEWS wine reviews – April 21–23, 2017

Ken Forrester Old Vine Reserve Chenin Blanc 2015
I'm a great fan of South African Chenin Blanc. Currently at Vintages outlets is Ken Forrester Old Vine Reserve Chenin Blanc 2015. Medium straw in colour, the wine has a nose of quince and honey and a gentle mineral note lifted with a fragrant floral tone. It's medium-bodied and dry on the palate, with pear, quince and melon flavours. It costs $17.95 at Vintages outlets. Match it with roast pork or Chinese cuisine. That's Ken Forrester Old Vine Reserve Chenin Blanc 2015 from South Africa. For Post City Magazines, I'm Tony Aspler, 680 NEWS. ($17.95, Vintages #231282) (89)

Château La Verrière 2014
If you're a claret-lover here's a Merlot-dominated Bordeaux Superieur at a great price: Château La Verrière 2014. Dense purple in colour with a creamy, spicy, oaky bouquet of blackcurrants, it's medium to full-bodied, dry, firmly structured with well-extracted plum and blackcurrant flavours, lively acidity and powdery tannins that finish with a cinnamon note. It costs $17.95 at Vintages outlets. A wine that makes a perfect match for roast lamb. That's Château La Verrière 2014 from Bordeaux. For Post City Magazines, I'm Tony Aspler, 680 NEWS. ($17.95, Vintages #349274) (89)
