- Stoneleigh Riesling 2002
- Serego Alighieri Possessioni Bianco 2002
- Unity Wine Chardonnay 2001
Three well made white wines this week.
Stoneleigh Riesling 2002 (New Zealand)
$11.95 (General list)
Light straw colour; spicy, green plum, lime with a honeyed note; medium-bodied,
dry with a crab apple and lime flavour, fresh and clean.
A very well made wine for the price. ***˝
Food match: shrimp cocktail; grilled sardines
Serego Alighieri Possessioni Bianco 2002 (Veneto)
A blend of Garganega (70%) and Sauvignon Blanc (30%). A refreshing change
from Chardonnay. Medium straw colour; grassy, white peach bouquet with
citrus notes; medium-bodied, fresh and lively with a solid mouth feel.
Good value. A versatile food wine. ****
Food matches: grilled fish; roast chicken.
Unity Wine Chardonnay 2001 (Ontario and BC)
$24.95 (Selected Wine Rack Stores)
An interesting blend of wines made by Jackson-Triggs' winemakers in Ontario
and BC, and beautifully packaged. The label is the best design I've seen
in Canada. Medium straw colour; peachy, apple nose with a mineral note;
medium-bodied with a toasty, spicy melon flavour. Well integrated oak,
good length. Only 300 cases made. ****
Food match: pork chop with apple sauce; blackened salmon
