Lindemans Bin 65 Chardonnay 2003 (Australia)
$9.20
This is Canada's largest-selling white wine – some 500,000 cases in the last 12 months. Amazing what economies of scale can do. The new 2003 vintage of this straw-coloured wine is medium-bodied with a bouquet of pineapple and nuts; it's sweetish on the palate with pear and banana flavours with enough acidity to give it interest. Good value. ***½
Food match: cheese soufflé; chicken salad

Kim Crawford Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc 2003 (New Zealand)
$19.95 (Vintages stores)
This is quintessential Marlborough Sauvignon. Light straw colour; intense grassy, guava nose; medium-bodied with a lovely mouthfeel; green pea, asparagus and elderberry flavours with zingy acidity; great length. ****½
Food match: mussels; Caesar salad

Cave Spring Gamay Reserve 2002 (Niagara Peninsula, Ontario)
$18.95 (winery, will be released at Vintages on Jan. 24)
Purple colour with a nose of black cherry and graphite; medium-bodied with a black raspberry-cherry flavour; firm structure with lively acidity. A good food wine. ****
Food match: turkey; grilled salmon

I wish all visitors to this site a warm holiday greeting. May the bird of paradise nest on your forehead and lay golden eggs.
