Top picks from Vintages' January 10 release
Cims de Porrera Solanes 2000 (Priorat, Spain)
Dense purple-black colour; concentrated, oaky, coffee bean and chocolate
nose; full-bodied, sweet and port with an earthy, tannic finish. Cellar
at least two years. ****½
Trimbach Gewurztraminer 2000 (Alsace)
Straw coloured with a honey, grapefruit and lychee bouquet; medium-bodied,
off-dry with a concentrated citrus and lychee flavour; more delicate than
Hugel or Zind-Humbrecht styles; well made, well structured with good length.
Lingenfelder Ganymed Spätburgunder 1999 (Pfalz)
This wine is a real surprise a German Pinot Noir that tastes like
a quality red Burgundy. Mature plum colour; raspberry nose; dry, light-bodied,
beautifully balanced; dances on the palate to a firm finish. Great label.
