Vincor's Latest Purchase (February 19, 2004)
Vincor International, Canada's largest wine producer and the fourth largest
in North America, just got a little bigger. They have announced the purchase
of a second Australian winery Amberley Estate, in the Margaret
River region of Western Australia. Amberley was established in 1985. Last
year Vincor bought another Western Australia winery, Goundrey. Their combined
production will make them one of the largest producers in the region.
Vincor will pay A$24.8 million for the shares of Amberley, which has
an enterprise value of A$36.2 million.
"Amberley and Goundrey complement each other perfectly,"says
Donald Triggs, Vincor's President and CEO. "By completing this acquisition,
Vincor will enhance its production and portfolio of fine Western Australian
wine brands and greatly increase its sales and distribution capability
in the important Oceania region."
Sales volume for Amberley has grown to over 100,000 cases annually, focusing
on Margaret River super-premium red and white wines, with a specialty
in Chenin Blanc. The winery's business will be integrated with those of
Goundrey and managed by Rich Hanen, President of Vincor's Goundrey Wines.
