Top Picks from Vintages' March 20th Release
Keo Commandaria "St. John" (Cyprus)
This intensely sweet Muscat is a perennial favourite, at a great price.
Deeply coloured with a nose of liquefied raisins and orange peel. Intense
and concentrated with great length. Not for the faint of heart. ****
Cosimo Taurino "Notarpanaro" Rosso 1997 (Puglia)
A blend of Negramaro (85%) and Malvasia Nero (15%) with three years in
French oak. Dense purple colour with a mature rim; a mature nose of plums,
sweet dates and vanilla; intense, sweet, dried raisins and dired berries,
full-bodied with a long, spicy finish. ****½
Mont-Redon Châteauneuf-du-Pape 2000 (Rhône)
A full-bodied wine in the modern style, all but ready for drinking but
will hold several years. Mature ruby-purple colour; a lovely nose of chocolate
and spicy blackberry; firm structure, well made with gripping tannins.
