My three wine recommendations this week are all from the Niagara Peninsula.
You can visit the winery or order through www.winerytohome.com .
Henry of Pelham Pinot Noir Unfiltered 2001
$18.95 (from the winery: 905-684-8423, or order through www.winerytohome.com)
Ruby with a tawny rim; Burgundian-style nose earthy, raspberry with a
hint of barnyard; well-extracted fruit, medium-bodied, firm structure and well
balanced with a taste of ripe raspberry and violets. Good length. Good value.
Food match: duck breast; grilled salmon
Strewn Cabernets 2002
$13.95 (from the winery: 905-468-1229, or order through www.winerytohome.com)
A Cabernet Franc-dominated wine; ruby colour with a floral nose packed with
red and blackcurrants graced with a cedary note; medium-bodied, elegant, beautifully
balanced with a firm finish. A bargain at the price. Hold one to two years.
Food match: leg of lamb; braised beef
Kittling Ridge Trillium Red Foch Baco 2003
$7.45 (from the winery: 416-777-6300 or 905-945-9225, or order through www.winerytohome.com)
A very drinkable wine at an amazing price. Ruby-coloured with a perfumed, pipe
tobacco and black cherry nose; medium-bodied, clean raspberry and black cherry
flavours; well-made and ready for drinking. ***1/2
Food match: hamburger; pizza.
