This is an entry level red Burgundy at an affordable price that is a versatile food partner. Light ruby colour with a bouquet of raspberry and pomegranate. Light and fresh on the palate with a lively raspberry and sour cherry flavour. Good length. ***½
Food match: salmon steaks; roast chicken

Barkan Classic Chardonnay 2002 (Israel)

A kosher wine that could change your mind about the category. Medium straw colour with a nose of apple and a hint of oak; the flavours are apple and citrus that suggest a Macon-style white. Well made and good value. ***½

Birchwood Estate Baco Noir 2002 (Ontario)

This wine won the gold medal in the Red Hybrid category at this year's Ontario Wine Awards. Deeply coloured with a nose of plums, oak and tobacco leaf. Medium-bodied, dry with a tangy cherry and spice flavour. ***½
