Award-winning Sommelier Karen Rossi Reviews Wines for TonyAspler.com

I'd like to welcome Karen Rossi, a talented young sommelier who will be reviewing wines for the member's section of this site. Karen recently won the Riedel Sommelier Blind Tasting Award at this year's Ontario Wine Awards.

Karen is a graduate of the Winery and Viticulture Technician program at Niagara College. In April, 2002, she won the National Canadian Student Sommelier championships and won a trip to the International Côtes du Rhône Challenge in France, where she captured a bronze medal.

She has trained this year's Niagara College student Jordan Harris for the same competition for 2004. Jordan has recently won the Canadian final and finished third while representing Canada in France this May.

Karen is currently completing her Diploma from the International Sommelier Guild and plans to begin her Diploma from the Wine and Spirit Education Trust this fall. She has also begun training for the upcoming Sommelier Competition being held by the Canadian Association of Professional Sommeliers (CAPS) this year. Karen has worked as the Sommelier at the Pillar and Post Inn, Spa & Conference Centre in Niagara-on-the-Lake for two years. She is currently a Beverage Supervisor at Casino Niagara and is involved in the wine and cigar program there.
