Canadian Winemakers Wins Winemaker of the Year Award (July 5, 2004)
Bruce Nicholson, the winemaker at Jackson-Triggs Okanagan Valley winery
in British Columbia, was awarded the André Tchelistcheff "Winemaker
of the Year" award for excellence in a single line of wines at the
San Francisco International Wine Competition. The event held earlier this
month at Hotel Nikko featured 3,800 wines entered by 964 wineries from
21 countries and 25 US states.
In addition to this honour, Nicholson's Jackson-Triggs 2003 Proprietors'
Grand Reserve Riesling Icewine won a Double Gold and "Best Dessert
Wine" award, the fourth win of its kind for the winery since 2000.
"Hearing that I was named Winemaker of the Year was a complete
shock," said Nicholson, "and then to learn that I won over a
record year of entrants was overwhelming. This is the thrill of a lifetime
and the greatest honour in my career so far."
