680 NEWS wine reviews – June 9–11, 2017

Bouchard Pere & Fils Les Deux Loups 2014
Côteaux Bourguignons is a regional wine appellation in France, covering the entire Burgundy region from the area around Auxerre down to Beaujolais. From this region Bouchard Pere & Fils make a blend of Chardonnay and Aligote called Les Deux Loups Blanc 2014. Currently at Vintages outlets this wine is a bargain at $16.95. Pale yellow in colour, it shows a spicy, apple nose; it's medium-bodied, dry and crisp with crab apple and green pear flavours and a lemony finish. A great introduction to white Burgundy and a perfect match for fish or seafood dishes. That's Bouchard Pere & Fils Les Deux Loups 2014 from France. For Post City Magazines, I'm Tony Aspler, 680 NEWS. ($16.95, Vintages #424911) (89)

Clare Valley Estate Chardonnay 2016
Chardonnay is a versatile food wine in either oaked or unoaked style. And today's recommendation – a barrel-fermented Chardonnay – is certainly wallet-friendly. Clare Valley Estate Chardonnay 2016 from Australia is medium straw in colour with a spicy, light floral, apple and lemon nose. It's medium-bodied, dry, beautifully balanced with a lovely mouth-feel; it's fresh and lively on the palate with just a hint of oak. It costs an affordable $15.95 a bottle at Vintages outlets. Great for barbecued scallops or chicken breast. That's Clare Valley Estate Chardonnay 2016 from Australia. For Post City Magazines, I'm Tony Aspler, 680 NEWS. ($15.95 Vintages #711556) (88.5)
