680 NEWS wine reviews – July 21–23, 2017

Avondale Jonty's Ducks Pekin Organic Red 2013
From the Paarl region in South Africa, a curiously named red with a fruit salad of grape varieties: Avondale Jonty's Ducks Pekin Organic Red 2013. It's a blend of Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot and Malbec. Dense purple in colour, it shows a smoky-tarry, spicy. blackberry nose; it's full-bodied, firmly structured, mouth-filling and well-balanced with a savoury black plum flavour and lively acidity. It costs $15.95 a bottle at Vintages outlets and is an ideal BBQ wine. That's Avondale Jonty's Ducks Pekin Organic Red 2013 from South Africa. For Post City Magazines, I'm Tony Aspler, 680 NEWS. ($15.95, Vintages #383547) (88)

Invivo Chardonnay 2016
Invivo Chardonnay 2016 is a New Zealand Chard that comes on like a white Burgundy. And the price is wallet-friendly. Straw-coloured with an oaky, spicy Burgundian-style nose, it's medium-bodied and dry with apple and citrus flavours; it's got good length with a chalky-minerally note on the finish. It costs $16.95 a bottle at Vintages outlets and makes an ideal marriage with grilled salmon or ripe Camembert. That's Invivo Chardonnay 2016 from New Zealand. For Post City Magazines, I'm Tony Aspler, 680 NEWS. ($16.95, Vintages #499855) (89)
