680 NEWS wine reviews – August 4–6, 2017

Xavier Côtes du Rhône 2015
The Côtes du Rhône region of southern France offers some of the best value red wines. Currently at Vintages is Xavier Côtes du Rhône 2015. Dense purple in colour, this full-bodied wine has a cedary, nose of blackberries tinged with vanilla oak. Dry on the palate, it has well-extracted, savoury black fruit and licorice flavours and a firm tannic finish. It costs $17.95 at Vintages outlets. Take it to your next BBQ party. That's Xavier Côtes du Rhône 2015 from France. For Post City Magazines, I'm Tony Aspler, 680 NEWS.($17.95, Vintages #297317) (89.5)

Domaine de la Renne Touraine Sauvignon Blanc 2015, Loire Valley
New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc has rather overshadowed the Loire Valley's traditional Sauvignon, but you might like the stylish Domaine de la Renne Touraine Sauvignon Blanc 2015. Pale gold in colour, this wine comes on like a white Bordeaux. The nose is all cut-grass and green plum with a light floral note. Medium-bodied and crisply dry, it offers flavours of lychee and green plum with a lemon-lime finish. It costs $14.95 at Vintages outlets. Try it with goat's cheese or asparagus. That's Domaine de la Renne Touraine Sauvignon Blanc 2015 from France's Loire Valley. For Post City Magazines, I'm Tony Aspler, 680 NEWS. ($14.95, Vintages #489963) (90)
