Top Picks for Vintages' August 7th release

Weinkellerei Moorhof Muskat Ottonel 2002, Neusiedlersee-Hugelland, Austria
(728667, $12.95)
Medium straw colour; fragrant, orange blossom with spice; light-bodied, elegant, off-dry perfumed taste of cardamom and sweet tangerine; great length. Terrific for the price. ****½

Château Pipeau 2000, St. Emilion
(731364, $38.95, On.)
A claret with a nod towards the new World. Dense purple-black colour; a rich bouquet of cedar, toast and black fruits; still tight but is concentrated fruit should make it a blockbuster in a few years. Has the structure to cellar well. *****

Framingham Pinot Noir 2002, Marlborough, New Zealand
(699322, $28.95)
Light purple colour; leather, black raspberry, minerally nose; sweet spicy fruit, firm structure with velvety tannins; well made. ****½

Fontanafredda Barbera d'Alba Superiore 2000, Piedmont, Italy
(948778, $29.95)
This is a superior Barbera. Dense purple in colour with a nose of vanilla and ripe plums; full-bodied with rich fruit extraction but dry and savoury with great length. Very distinguished. ****½
