680 NEWS wine reviews – November 10–12, 2017

Argento Reserva Malbec 2014
Argento Reserva Malbec 2014 is a wallet-friendly wine from Argentina available at the LCBO for $13.95.  Dense purple in colour, it has a smoky, struck flint, plum and cherry nose. At 14% alcohol, it's full-bodied, dry, with savoury-herbal blackberry and plum flavours augmented by a floral note grace note. Lively on the palate it finishes firmly with ripe tannins. If you're still barbecuing, this is a great hamburger wine. That's Argento Reserva Malbec 2014 from Argentina on the LCBO's general list. For Post City Magazines, I'm Tony Aspler, 680 NEWS. ($13.95, LCBO #363192) (89)

Pierre Sparr Brut Rosé Crémant d'Alsace
Pink champagne doesn't come cheap but an affordable substitute is Crémant d'Alsace Rosé. Currently at Vintages outlets is Pierre Sparr Brut Rosé Crémant d'Alsace at $19.95 a bottle. Flesh pink in colour, it has a nose of cherries and citrus fruits with a light floral aroma. Medium-bodied and dry, the flavour is of red apples and cherry pits. Chill it lightly and serve it as an aperitif or with roasted chestnuts. That's Pierre Sparr Brut Rosé Crémant d'Alsace from France at Vintages. For Post City Magazines, I'm Tony Aspler, 680 NEWS. ($19.95, Vintages #39016)
