This new winery owned by the sparkling wine giant Codorníu produces bargain-priced wines. Mature ruby colour; oaky, spicy chocolate nose with a roasted note; medium-bodied, ripe, plummy fruit with soft tannins and a touch of cinnamon on the finish. Good value ***½

Miguel Torres Santa Digna Sauvignon Blanc 2004 (Chile)
$12.95 (Vintages # 177444)
This is one of the wines chosen in a blind tasting of Sauvignons to accompany a dish at the Santé gala dinner on May 11. Pale straw with a concentrated nose of gooseberry, cut grass and passion fruit; richly extracted fruit with a crisp, zingy finish. Great value for the quality. ****

Dense purple-ruby colour; wet bark, oaky, smoke, red berries on the nose; medium-bodied, well structured, sweet fruit, firm with mellow tannins on the finish. Well made.****
