Noemie Vernaux Pisse-Dru Beaujolais Blanc 2003 (Burgundy)

Make sure you find the 2003 vintage, which was unlike any vintage in Burgundy. A delicious wine for the price: pale straw colour; fresh citrus and apple nose; medium-bodied lemony, caramel flavours, clean and lengthy. Good value. ***½
Food match: roast chicken, grilled salmon

Wente Vineyards Chardonnay 2003 (San Francisco Bay)
$14.95 (General release)
Pale straw colour; oaky, orange rind nose; full-bodied citrus and tangerine flavours, firm structure, well made with good length. ****
Food match: blackened tuna; grilled quail

Willow Heights Tresette 2002 Hughes Vineyard (Niagara Peninsula)
$29.95 (from the winery in Vineland; call 905-562-4945)
A blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc. Deep ruby colour; on the nose – cedar, pencil shavings, black fruits; medium-bodied, vanilla, oak-dominated flavour, clean red berry fruit flavours, good acidity; well made. Needs time. **** (with time ****½)
