 WINES OF THE WEEK

More Wines of the Week

  • Angus the Bull Cabernet Sauvignon 2003
  • Lailey Vineyard Unoaked Chardonnay 2004
  • Creekside Sauvignon Blanc Reserve 2003

Angus the Bull Cabernet Sauvignon 2003 (Australia)
$17.95 (General list #602615)
This is a carnivore's delight – a big, beefy, fruit-forward wine from Down Under. Dense purple colour; vanilla oak, blackcurrant nose; strapping, full-bodied with herby blackcurrant flavours and peppery tannins. ****
Food match: T-bone steak; venison

Lailey Vineyard Unoaked Chardonnay 2004 (Ontario)
$16 (from the winery, 905-468-0503 or email tonya@laileyvineyard.com or through www.winerytohome.com)
This wine is deeply coloured for a non-oaked Chardonnay. It has a minerally nose rather shy at present but the taste is certainly there – medium-bodied, dry, racy, lemony-lime flavour. Good length. ****
Food match: grilled fish; Camembert

Creekside Sauvignon Blanc Reserve 2003 (Ontario)
$15.95 (from the winery – 1-877-262-9463 or order through www.winerytohome.com)
Creekside has always made first rate Sauvignon Blanc. This is one of the best they’ve produced, in New Zealand style. Medium straw colour; grassy, passion fruit nose; medium-bodied, dry, well extracted fruit, rich passion fruit flavour, stylish, persistent, good acidity. ****˝
Food match: shellfish; asparagus
