More Wines of the Week

  • Masi Tupungato Passo Doble 2003
  • Vina San Pedro Castillo de Molina Reserva Cabernet Sauvignon 2003
  • Château Bonnet Entre-Deux-Mers 2003

Masi Tupungato Passo Doble 2003 (Argentina)
$14.95 (General list)
Masi, the Veneto producer, has used local vinification techniques on the traditional Corvina grape (one of the constituents of Valpolicella and Amarone) in this blend of Malbec and Merlot. The Corvina grapes were semi-dried before fermentation. Dense purple ruby colour; vanilla, sweet blackberry and chocolate nose; rich, full-bodied mouthfeel, sweet fruit with a plum and raisin flavour; well balanced. Good value. ****
Food match: pepper steak; lamb chops

Vina San Pedro Castillo de Molina Reserva Cabernet Sauvignon 2003 (Chile)
$13.50 (General release)
Deep ruby-purple colour; cedar, crushed blackcurrants, vanilla oak; medium-fullbodied, sweet blackcurrant flavour with a floral note; well structured and clean. Great value. ****
Food match: red meat dishes; coq au vin

Château Bonnet Entre-Deux-Mers 2003 (Bordeaux, France)
$12.95 (General release)
The 2003 vintage was unique in its ripeness. This is not a usual very dry Entre-Deux-Mers but much more New World in style. Pale straw; peachy, grassy nose with a mineral note; richly extracted, medium-bodied, sweet peach and citrus flavours; beautifully balanced. And it comes with a screwcap. Great value. ****
Food match: roast chicken; cold lobster
