The Wine Council of Ontario Teams Up with Szabo & Szabo for Province-wide Restaurant Education

The Ontario Wine Council and participating wineries are pleased to announce the introduction of the first full-scale, province-wide education program for licensees. The program, developed and implemented by John Szabo and Zoltan Szabo of Szabo & Szabo Drinks Trade Consultants, is designed to educate restaurant staff about premium VQA Ontario wine. The seminar includes a virtual tour of Ontario's wine growing regions, practical food and wine paring, and a blind tasting of benchmark Ontario wine styles. The program is aimed at raising awareness of premium Ontario wine in the restaurant sector.

It is offered at no charge to licensees. Both floor and kitchen staff will be invited to participate in the seminars, emphasizing the harmony of Ontario wines with a wide range of cuisines.

The program will roll out at the beginning of July, targeting an initial group of 36 restaurants across Ontario, including last year's VQA wine list award winners and other high-profile and high-potential venues. A total of 20 premium WCO member wineries are participating in the first round of the program. Phase two will begin in 2006. Restaurants interested in learning more and hosting the Szabo & Szabo VQA seminar should contact Szabo & Szabo at info@szaboandszabo.com, website www.szaboandszabo.com.
