Gunderloch Balbach Riverside Riesling 2004 (Germany)
$10.05 (general list)
Riesling is one of those grapes that wine professionals love – and the general consumer loves, too, once they've got past the memory of Liebfraumilch. Here's a real bargain. You can recognize it easily by its blue bottle. It has a flavour of ripe peach, grapefruit and lime juice with a mineral note and great acidity to give it length. You won't find a better off-dry white wine at the price. ****
Food match: Thai dishes, ham salad

Henry of Pelham Barrel-Fermented Chardonnay 2003
$19.95 (Vintages #268342)
This is an extremely well made Chardonnay in the style of white Burgundy. Straw coloured with a smoky, toasty, apple nose, it hits the palate with an assertive, medium-to-full-bodied rush of flavour with well integrated oak. You'll experience spicy, rich tangerine and apple flavours that last in the mouth. ****˝
Food match: cold salmon; seared scallops

Caliterra Sauvignon Blanc 2004 (Chile)
$9.95 (General list)
If you're looking for a Sauvignon Blanc for under $10, look no further. The wine has a ripe gooseberry and grapefruit bouquet and a flavour of kiwi and citrus fruit; it's quite full in the mouth with a touch of sweetness in the mid-palate. You won't be ashamed to serve it to the most discriminating wine snob. ***˝
Food match: spicy chicken; shrimp and avocado
