Top Picks from Vintages' July 23rd Release
Andre Petit Pineau des Charentes 2002 (Cognac)
A great aperitif unfermented grape juice with cognac added. Amber colour; a nose of marzipan; off-dry, full-bodied, with an sweet almond, honey and orange peel flavour; great balance and length. Chill it. *****
Dog Point Vineyard Sauvignon Blanc 2004 (Marlborough, New Zealand)
A quintessential New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc at a very good price. Pale straw colour; concentrated green fig, cut grass and citrus nose; full-bodied, well extracted sweet gooseberry and elderberry fruit flavours; great length. *****
D'Arenberg "The Dead Arm" Shiraz 2002 (McLaren Vale, South Australia)
Unfortunately, this wine has been creeping up in price over the last few vintages but it's a great one. Dense purple-black in colour; cedar, vanilla oak and crushed blackberries on the nose; mouth-filling sweet blackberry flavour with a medicinal note; great length. *****
