A well-priced Shiraz with lots of flavour. Dense purple colour; sweet, spicy blackberry nose with a touch of vanilla oak and a medicinal note; full-bodied, well made with good balancing acidity. Good value. ***˝
Food match: grilled steak; spicy tomato-based pastas

Lailey Vineyard Old Vines Chardonnay 2002 (Ontario)
$32 (from www.winerytohome.com or direct from the winery)
Yes, it's expensive, but it's a terrific bottle of wine. Yellow straw colour with a mature look; a nose of spicy oak, caramel and forest floor; full-bodied, dry with a rich, spicy butter and caramel flavour. Very Burgundian in style, mouth-filling with great length. ****˝
Food match: lobster, Epoisse cheese

Stoney Ridge Riesling 2004 (Ontario)
$11.10 (General release)
An inexpensive off-dry Riesling. Very pale colour with a lime tint; semi-dry with good flavour intensity, tangerine and lemon taste; light-bodied. Good value. ****
Food match: spicy dishes – Thai, light curries.
