McWilliam's Hanwood Estate Shiraz 2003 (South Eastern Australia)

Aussie Shiraz rules at the LCBO these days! Deep purple in colour with a smoky, minty, black cherry bouquet and a medicinal note; full-bodied, fruit-driven, spicy black cherry with lively acidity and nicely integrated oak. Firm tannic finish. ***½
Food match: beef casserole; ribs

Henry of Pelham Gamay 2004 (Ontario)
$13.75 (Vintages stores, #291112)
A useful Beaujolais-style red. Light ruby colour; struck flint and cherry pit nose; light bodied raspberry flavour with good acidity. Easy drinking and chillable. ***½
Food match: ham; roast chestnuts

Vineland Estates St. Urban Riesling 2004 (Ontario)
$20 (available from the winery, 1-888-VINELAND)
This St. Urban Vineyard bottling is a real step up from Vineland's regular Dry Riesling. Pale straw in colour; minerally, grapefruit peel nose; medium-bodied, very elegant, racy, lime and dried apricot flavours; good length, very Mosel in style. ****½
