Time to "Taste the Season" in Niagara-on-the-Lake

Wineries of Niagara-on-the-Lake add a third weekend to the 5th annual Taste the Season

With a new winery, a third weekend, and delectable food and wine pairings, the 5th annual Taste the Season returns to Niagara-on-the-Lake in November. Each $30 passport allows visitors to sample expertly paired food delicacies and VQA wines at the 17 Wineries of Niagara-on-the-Lake, all within a 10-minute drive of each other. Taste the Season takes place on the weekends of November 12–13, 19–20 and 26–27, with 500 tickets available each weekend. Proceeds support Second Harvest and its programs to help deliver daily fresh food to those in need. Passports are available by calling Second Harvest at (416) 408-2594 or online at www.niagaraonthelake.com.

"Passports sold out last year, and to meet the demand without increasing the number of visitors at any one time, we have added a third weekend to this event," said Andrea Nelson, chair of the Taste the Season committee. "Taste the Season is a wonderful experience and a great opportunity to discover some fabulous wines just in time for holiday entertaining. The first weekend is already close to sold out but there are still lots of passports available for the subsequent weekends."

Each winery will provide visitors with a carefully matched white, red, dessert or fruit wine and food pairing. Discover Niagara-on-the-Lake's newest winery, Palatine Hills, and sample Chardonnay with a Potato & Onion Perogy in a Light Cream Sauce. Other pairings include Inniskillin's Pinot Noir and Wild Atlantic Salmon Terrine with Lightly Spiced Beef Gazpacho, and Riesling Icewine and Lemon Mousse in a Dark Chocolate Cup at Reif.

Take the weekend to explore all that Niagara-on-the-Lake has to offer while stocking your cellar for holiday entertaining and gift-giving. Stop at the Niagara-on-the-Lake Chamber of Commerce in the historical shopping district during your stay and receive a keepsake hand-blown glass ornament, included with your passport purchase.

A special 1½ day tour with shuttle pick-up, touring and drop-off is available through Niagara Airbus. For more information, call 905-374-8111.

The 17 participating Wineries of Niagara-on-the-Lake are Château des Charmes, Coyote's Run, Hillebrand, Inniskillin, Jackson-Triggs, Joseph's, Konzelmann, Lailey, Marynissen, NCT Winery, Palatine Hills, Peller, Pillitteri, Reif, Stonechurch, Strewn and Sunnybrook Farm.
