Andre Millot Merlot 2003 (Vin de Pays d'Oc)
$13.30 for 1500 mL (General list # 565960)
Cheap and cheerful but surprisingly good quality for the price. Medium ruby colour; minerally raspberry nose; medium-bodied with a clean, fruity (raspberry) flavour. The acidity holds the wine together. ***½
Food match: pasta with tomato sauce; pork loin

Chateau des Charmes Equuleus 2002 (Ontario)
$35 (from the winery: 905-262-4219, tourcentre@chateaudescharmes.com)
A blend of 50% Cabernet Sauvignon and equal parts Merlot and Cabernet Franc. Deep ruby colour; a nose of cedar and dark chocolate. A rich, expressive taste of sweet red berries bolstered by sweet oak; dry and full-bodied, reminiscent of a Tuscan Cabernet Sauvignon. Firm finish, well made. ****½
Food match: lamb; beef casserole

Reif Vidal Icewine 2003 (Ontario)
$24.95 for 200 mL (Vintages # 544791)
This is one of the best Vidal Icewines of this Vintage. Bronze-gold in colour with a nose of honey and dried peach, spicy note. Thick and unctuous on the palate with flavours oforange, peach and honey; mouth-filling, rich, toffee flavour finish; good balancing acidity. *****
Food match: foie gras; gorgonzola
