René Barbier Tempranillo Merlot N/V (Penedes, Spain)
$8.95 (General list #640193)
This non-vintage blend is better than its price suggests. Medium ruby in colour; cedary, red berry notes on the nose; medium-bodied with blueberry and blackberry flavours and a hint of coconut from American oak, it finishes with dusty tannins. Good value. ***½
Food match: hamburgers; pizza

Banrock Station Unwooded Chardonnay 2004 (South Eastern Australia)
$10.05 (General list #9311043)
This may be hard to find, since the LCBO has discontinued it, but check www.lcbo.com for the stores where it's still available.
Straw colour; apple nose; medium-bodied, clean, dry, apple flavour with a decently long citrus finish. ***½
Food match: white fish; brie

Robert Mondavi Merlot 2002 (California Central Coast)
$20 (General list #524769)
Ruby colour; cedar and blackberry nose; medium to full-bodied, well balanced blackberry, blueberry and plum flavours seamlessly integrated oak, very elegant. ****
Food match: duck breast; beef Wellington
