Cuvée Weekend 

This year's Cuvée Weekend, the annual red-carpet celebration known as the "Oscars" of the Ontario wine industry, will take place Friday through Sunday, March 3–5, 2006 in the heart of Niagara wine country.

This year, over fifty Ontario wineries will pour over 170 of their best wines at the Cuvée Gala. This is the largest number of wineries ever to participate in the Cuvée Weekend, which has an illustrious history dating back over fifteen years. The Cuvée En Route program, which gives passport holders the opportunity to visit wineries throughout the weekend for special tastings, also involves a record number of wineries this year. Guests can visit thirty-five different wineries throughout Niagara for a series of themed tastings designed to appeal to the wine enthusiast. According to Liz Palmieri, Director of the Niagara Community Foundation, which presents the event, "The record number of wineries participating in the Cuvée Gala and Cuvée En Route is an indication that 2006 is set to be the biggest and best Cuvée Weekend yet."

On Saturday March 4, the public is invited to attend the Cuvée Gala at Niagara-on-the-Lake's White Oaks Resort and Spa, where winners of the coveted Cuvée Awards are announced. Guests sample the winning wines and selections poured by the wineries, and enjoy the creations of the eight chefs, who prepare their offerings at live cooking stations. Along with Ontario's top wine producers, the gala plays host to some of our best-known culinary stars, including Michael Olson of 17 Noir, Jason Parsons of Peller Estates Winery Restaurant, Mark Hand and the culinary students of Niagara College, Michael Price of LIV at White Oaks Resort, and Erik Peacock of Wellington Court Restaurant. Then, throughout the weekend, guests top off their experience by touring and tasting along Niagara's wine route by participating in Cuvée En Route.

Cuvée Weekend tickets are regularly priced at $200.00 per person and include admission to the Cuvée Gala and all Cuvée En Route activities. They are available at www.cuvee.ca or by calling 905-684-8688. Cuvée En Route admission can be purchased separately for $20.00 per person, via the same outlets or by visiting one of the participating wineries on Cuvée Weekend. Proceeds from the weekend go to the Niagara Community Foundation.
